Summer Camp 2015

Posted by Jason Bisel on July 20, 2015 at 9:45 AM

We had a great summer camp this year, with 21 scouts attending.  We had both cool and hot days, as well as dry and rainy days, but all in all, the weather cooperated.  The scouts worked on many merit badges and outposts and all appeared to have a good time.  As in past years we prepared our own meals in camp as opposed to using the dining hall.  We had a great menu including: lasagna, BBQ pork loins, chicken and dumpling, mountain man, and many other great dishes.

It was also a notable year for the wild life, right off we discovered that we had one raccoon that had no hesitations about coming right into camp and foraging.  It took us three evenings of “persuading” to convince him not continue visiting our camp.  There was also a plethora of mice running around camp, as I even had one crawl up my tent between the rain fly and mesh to feed on the bugs that were trapped.  Upon returning home, I also discovered that a frog had hidden himself in my folded tarp, but had traveled unharmed and was released.

The scouts did a great job working on their merit badges and several were also able to complete necessary requirements to achieve rank advancements.  We had planned to conduct a couple of additional boards the morning before returning, but just as we completed packing the troop and personal gear, it began to rain profusely.

A special thanks to all of the leaders who spent the week working with the scouts, in the kitchen and making sure the scouts were at the right place at the correct time.
