Klondike Derby 2019 was a success. All the boys did a great job braving the snow and wind. While many units left after dinner Saturday the boys elected to stay the second night. They really are amazing scouts. We came in second place this year. Good job Scouts!

The Troop had a great time hiking the trails at The Shades State Park this last weekend. The scouts took some of the more difficult trails up the ravines (even took a couple of trails twice ;)). The weather was good with no rain and nice temparatures for a hike. Many of the newer scouts were able to complete a number of requirements and rank advancements.

Troop 48 is growing again. Over the past couple of months three new scouts have transfered to our unit bringing our current count to 33 scouts. In a few weeks Pack 48 (which has over 110 Cub Scouts) will he holding its Blue and gold Dinner. We are expecting to receive 15 Arrow of Light Scouts crossing over to Boy Scouts. This will bring our number to.. welll.. 48 scouts. Its an exiting time to be part of Troop 48.

Our last camping event was the annual Prairie Dunes District Klondike Derby. This is a winter camping event that allows the scouts to not only test their winter camping skills, but their scouting skills against other troops in the area. This year we WON! Prize, the Klondike Traveling Trophy, the Golden Pickaxe.
Great Job Scouts!

We had a great summer camp this year, with 21 scouts attending. We had both cool and hot days, as well as dry and rainy days, but all in all, the weather cooperated. The scouts worked on many merit badges and outposts and all appeared to have a good time. As in past years we prepared our own meals in camp as opposed to using the dining hall.Read Full Post »

We had a great weekend with 8 scouts and 4 leaders in attendance as we set out for the Lincoln Pilgrimage. We arrived late in the evening and got the essentials of camp set up Friday night at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Saturday morning we had some pretty good rains, but fortunately we went to the Lincoln museum and library during the worst of the rain. While at the museum some of the scouts participated in the Museum Quest. Afterwards, we visited the old Union Station w...Read Full Post »

The Troop had a great time at the 2015 Potowotomie Trail hike. We had a cold night the first evening, but all the scouts bundled up and stayed warm. The lake front still has ice mounds all along the shore, which makes for an interesting landscape. It was great to have some Webelos join us for the hike and meals.
The local raccoons in the dunes were not timid about visiting the campsite or the dumpster, as they were ...Read Full Post »

The blood drive appeared to be a sucess. A special thank you to Mrs. Kutemeier for coordinating and managing the event. Several scouts assisted with check in and refreshments. Some scouts that were over 16 also donated blood. Many of the leaders who were available also donated.

Waterfall glen campout this weekend was good. Despite not being able to do the orienteering course, we were able to go on a nice hike, and had a great time at camp. We even got some rank advancements done.
Congrats to Wyatt G. Kyle N. Ryan K, and Eric F for acheiving the rank of New Scout!
